The use of the Internet to traffic synthetic drugs is a continuously evolving phenomenon which requires various techniques to detect and respond to the rapidly changing situation. As online trafficking is often a transnational crime, it involves multiple jurisdictions. Therefore, to effectively detect and respond to this threat, it is critical that States cooperate with each other by sharing intelligence and evidence.

This section summarises some of the techniques used by law enforcement agencies and the key elements needed for a successful detection and response strategy.
